Fall Hummingbird Migration
A hummingbird flys along the Mississippi River Fly Way through Memphis, Tennessee during migration.
During migration, a hummingbird's heart beats over 1,200 times a minute, and its wings flap as many as 80 times a second. They are documented as coming to the same location on the same day each year. Hummingbirds look for nectar sources such as flowers to fuel their journey. This tiny little hummingbird can travel over 20 miles in one day.

Hummingbird Nectar Recipe:
How to Make it:
It just takes sugar and water-
Mix 1 part sugar with 4 parts water in warm or hot water (for example, 1 cup of sugar with 4 cups of water) until the sugar is dissolved
Do not add red dye, fill your hummingbird feeders with the sugar water and place outside, change feeders often.
Final step: sit back and laugh at these funny little guys, spring and fall.
One of the best events of the year in the mid-south is the Hummingbird Migration & Nature Celebration at Strawberry Plains near Holly Springs, Mississippi. I shot this video there a few years back. Field Ornithologist Bob Sargent spoke in this video about the miracle of a hummingbird’s journey.
