Baby Orangutan, Rowan, Born to Memphis Zoo
Hey mom's don't you still feel this way about your babies? Jahe is a first time mother at the Memphis Zoo. I hope you get a chance to see her and her new baby Rowan this weekend. A baby Orangutan, Rowan, was born on March 19, to “Jahe” and “Tombak” at the Memphis Zoo. Jahe required a Caesarean section. Keepers cared for the baby for 11 days before he got to meet his mother, who has since embraced motherhood says the Memphis Zoo. The baby weighed 5.4lbs at birth. He and Jahe have been inseparable.
The Malay word orangutan means "person of the forest." These long-haired, orangish primates, found only in Sumatra and Borneo, are highly intelligent and are close relatives of humans, according to National Geographic.
